Waldorf 80th 1929 - 2009
The Waldorf, one of Dublin’s oldest barbers celebrated 80 years of continuous business in Westmoreland Street at 3pm on the 20th June 2009.
The shop opened its doors in 1929 at 37 Westmoreland Street and due to expansion moved across the street to its present location in 1946.
The current owners, father and daughter team Liam and Linda took over in 1994 and set about restoring the premises to its original state.
On the day hairstyles from 1920 to today were on display.
First to arrive was our 1920s style customer, cycling along Westmoreland Street all dressed in his 1920s attire and treated us to a song and dance of the 1920s.
Then we had our 1940s customer, arriving in his 1941 Buick, wearing his trilby hat and proceeding to perform the Lindy hop and swing dance.

Following that we have the fab 1950s; our man arrived in his period Pontiac,
Followed by a teddy boy on his Harley Davidson who performed the jive in Westmoreland Street.

Then we have a group of about 10 Rockabilly’s looking fantastic and colourful in their outfits.

We then have the1960s mod arriving on his scooter.
Then our 1980 guy arrived in a 1984 Renault 4.
Plus all our other haircuts.
This was a very special day and should be shared with the public.”A bit of Irish history that can’t be missed. “
